diy milk glass

Love this project. White seems to be my color of choice lately and spray paint will always be on the top of my favorite products list.

knitted hunting trophy

This post is for my sister Lizzy...

This is the perfect combination of your and Devon's hobbies. I think the baby would love one in his room above the crib. :)

how to grow wheatgrass

I love the look of wheatgrass, but have often felt intimidated about actually growing it myself. Here's a great tutorial at Make and Takes.

roman shades

I've been searching all over for a good roman shade tutorial online. I'm thinking it might be something I want to make for the windows in my basement.  This tutorial from ReadyMade is the best I've seen and actually creates the shade completely from scratch not an existing, inexpensive roman shade.

so you think you're crafty

I've been following the So You Think You're Crafty blog for the past few months and love to see the new projects posted each week. They follow the "so you think you can dance" format where you can vote for a winning project each week. The winner posts the step-by-step tutorial of the project. They also just started a So You Think You Can Decorate blog. Check it out!

vintage couch

Last fall, I found this couch on ksl classifieds. I convinced Adam to drive an hour with me to check it out and help bring it home if I liked it. And liked it, I did. I love the look of tufted furniture.

Its been sitting in my living waiting for me to go figure out what I need to do to get it recovered. Eventually it will sit right across from my desk in my office downstairs. I'm thinking a gray velvet (not sure if I should go more silver gray or charcoal gray) with the wood painted glossy white. Any thoughts?

stockings

I only have 3 stockings and this year we need 4. I tried to explain this tragedy to Adam, who wasn't very sympathetic. The problem is that I have a hard time finding stockings I really like. And, what I like really depends on the year and the basic design theme I end up with for my holiday decor.

If I had more time this year, I'd love to try making these stockings from Made. With the right sweaters, I think they could be fun.

canvas presents

Love this simple holiday decor idea from Real Simple. Take blank white artist canvases and wrap with ribbon to create faux presents.

speaking of Ikea...

I just spent 4 hours ordering cabinets for my basement workspace-through tomorrow you can save up to 20%. I'm going for an all white look. I'm hoping it turns out the way I'm envisioning. I've taken remodel pics along the way so I'll post before and afters when the project is done.

toy storage bins

I'm working on creating a toy room in my basement. I have an Ikea Expedit bookcase I can use, and I want to find some cool storage bins that could go in the squares to store toys. I'm having trouble finding what I want. I had originally envisioned metal bins, and I'd love for them to look distressed/vintage. Anyone know of a great place to find metal bins? Or any other ideas??

traveling....

Since Liv was born, I feel like we've been traveling, traveling, traveling. We've been to California, Florida, Idaho, Washington, Alabama, Virgina, Washington D.C. and driven through even more states. I think we're finally back at home for at least a few months. Luckily most of our travel has been with family or to see family which I love! Now, I can't wait to get back to my creative projects including this blog. In the spirit of travel, here's a great project I found to showcase your worldwide adventures....

This home decor project created at Brooklyn Limestone is the perfect way to showcase your travels around the world. I love how it creates a visual reminder of where and when you've traveled. Simply photocopy and mount the passport pages onto square wood blocks or mini canvases and hang on the wall. Add a frame around the squares to define the space on your wall. Check out the detailed step-by-step here.

I'm thinking that creating a collage of mementos from your travel locations like ticket stubs, maps, brochures etc. would also work well - especially for any domestic trips you'd like to highlight.

fabric feedback

I need your feedback!  So I have an idea about recovering a small child's couch/chair for a toy room I'm redoing right now in my basement.  I'm not really set on a specific color palette for the room, but I'm currently thinking aqua/teals, corally orange/pinks/red, grays.  I want the room to feel fun yet slightly sophisticated.  With just 2 girls for now it can edge towards the girly side, but I want the flexibility of it not being so girly that a boy is totally out of place.

I did a quick search at fabric.com and pulled these swatches.  I'm thinking that if I can find a fabric I really like, I can base the paint and some other decor around it.

So do you have any favorites from the image above or any recommendations I should check out?  The couch/chair will be set against a wall that is visible when looking straight through the door into the room.

Any thoughts???

tiny pin cushion

Since my sister Lauren left (along with amazing sewing ability), my sewing machine has been gathering dust. I've got a list of projects to sew, but before I do I want to make these cute pin cushions from Origami Mommy. I think it be interesting to also try creating them in a slightly bigger size.

dresser tool chest

I like this idea on Crafty Nest for turning an old dresser into a rolling tool chest. I think it would be perfect for storing art supplies and craft tools.

pintuck pillows

I always want pillows to decorate my couches/beds etc., but I can never find any I really like. I think I'll look for fabric I like and make some of these pintuck pillows.

chalkboard paint

I love the look of chalkboards. This is a recipe to create your own chalkboard paint in the color of your choice. I think the terra cotta chalkboard pots would be the perfect place to test it out.

3 teaspoons acrylic paint (color of choice)
1 1/2 teaspoons glazing medium (water-based)
1/2 teaspoon powder tile grout

Mix all ingredients together, blending very well.

chalkboard pots

I love this idea from MS. Simply paint the pot with chalkboard paint and then write the name of the plant directly on the pot with chalk. I'd like to try it with the entire pot painted in chalkboard paint and use a chalkboard pen to make sure the writing is clear and dark enough. I think it'd be perfect for a small indoor herb garden.

fabric wall squares

I love the clean, stylish look of this framed fabric project by Martha Stewart. Maybe I'll implement this in the girls' room.
